All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen president Asaduddin Owaisi on Monday condemned a video clip circulating in cyberspace that purportedly shows Delhi blast accused describing suicide bombing not as suicide but an act of martyrdom.
Speaking to the media at the party headquarters in Daussalaam in Hyderabad, he said the video is deeply disturbing and “a fit example of terrorism”. Mr Owaisi said taking a life is “the biggest crime under the law of the land” and emphasised that Islam unequivocally deems such acts impermissible. “There is no misunderstanding here [as the accused sought to portray]. All Islamic scholars across all schools of thought hold suicide attacks to be a heinous crime. We condemn this,” he said.
Referring to remarks by the Union Home Minister Amit Shah about the security situation under Operation Sindoor and Operation Mahadev, Mr Owaisi questioned how a blast of this nature could occur in the national capital. “He [Mr Shah] said that for the past six months no terrorist group from Kashmir was active. Yet in Delhi 14 people have died. Who is accountable? How was this missed?” he asked.
He added that a sizeable amount of ammonium nitrate was sealed in Srinagar before the explosion occurred and said the Union government must clarify what went wrong. “Delhi is the country’s capital. Security is with the Union government. They must answer this, he said.
Touching upon the tragedy near Medina, Saudi Arabia, in which 45 umrah pilgrims were killed in a road accident, he said that he had spoken with Ambassador in Saudi Arabia Sohail Ejaz Khan. Mr Khan, he said, is currently in Medina and coordinating assistance along with Minister Azharuddin and MLA Majid Hussain for families arriving there. He added that the Prime Minister’s Office, the Foreign Secretary and other officials were in touch with the authorities concerned.
