Writer-director Saailu Kampati has made headlines stating in a daring fashion that he would walk in underwear if the movie fails to entertain audiences. ETV Win have been delivering good content oriented films like Little Hearts too. With a strong statement from director and the story based on a real incident, Raju Weds Rambai, released on 21st November. Let’s discuss about it.
Plot:
Raju (Akhil Raj) is famous as the wedding performer in a band of his own. His father (Shivaji Raja), doesn’t want him to continue in that work as it is an ancestral work for them. He wants him to break the chain and work outside in a big city and earn better. But Raju is in love with Rambai (Tejaswi Rao) and he wants to live only with her.
Rambai doesn’t fall for him immediately, but likes the way he plays drums. Slowly, she falls in love with him and accepts his proposal. But her father, Venkanna (Chaitanya Jonnalagadda) doesn’t want this alliance and tries to arrange her marriage with a Government employee. What will he do, when Raju and Rambai turn adamant about marrying each other? Watch the movie to know.
Analysis:
Tejaswi Rao and Akhil Raj look the part and deliver a potentially good performance. But their inexperience is visible through the highly emotional scenes. Their climax breakdown could have been written better but it showcases the kind of raw potential the two young performers have.
The movie starts off well trying to engage audiences by transporting them into the world of the film. But it dips as the story progresses with unimaginative scenes. The story needed much better approach in bringing Raju and Rambai together over the course even if it is based on real incidents.
The chemistry is on and off between the leads as writing doesn’t consistently build their relationship. Even Venkanna’s character and all others don’t feel real but over dramatic which is a hassle for such films. Still, the performances of senior cast in much better and helpful in sustaining interest to an extent.
The climax twist and climax emotion feel underwhelming due to the writing that stays at surface level without strong connection. Overall, the movie is honest in its narrative but technical values, production values seem underwhelming at places. Still, it ends up being watchable for its sincerity in sticking true to incidents.
Bottomline:
Needed a lot more imagination still works to an extent.
Rating: 2.5/5
