Telangana Prohibition and Excise Department Principal Secretary Raghunandan Rao has instructed enforcement teams to intensify efforts to curb non-duty-paid liquor in Telangana, stating that such action is essential for boosting excise revenue and supporting liquor shop sales under the new liquor policy.
At a review meeting on Thursday (November 20, 2025) at Abkari Bhavan, along with Prohibition and Excise Commissioner C. Hari Kiran, they discussed Telangana Beverages sales, manufacturing data, alcohol consumption trends, labelling practices of liquor manufacturers and enforcement activities.
Officials were directed to prepare specific strategies to curb the flow of non-duty-paid liquor, which Rao said was causing significant loss to the state’s excise income. Additional directions included strengthening labelling and barcode systems in liquor supply, improving processes for issuing permits and licences for new industries, enhancing check posts and conducting periodic inspections of alcohol manufacturing units.
