Hyderabad: Senior BRS leader T Harish Rao on Friday accused the Congress govt of turning Bhu Bharati, introduced last year, into a ‘land trap’ due to corruption, irregularities, and rampant extortion. In a statement, the former minister alleged that several farmers have attempted suicide because of the delays in land registration. He said the chief minister has failed the farming community.“The other day, two brothers in Nennela mandal of Mancherial district staged a protest with pesticide bottles in front of the tahsildar’s office, upset that their land registration was not being processed. On Thursday, a farmer attempted suicide by consuming pesticide in front of the Nagarkurnool MLA camp office for the same reason,” he claimed.Harish Rao said that during election campaigning, Revanth Reddy had declared, “Not a single farmer will suffer due to land issues. We will protect farmers’ land rights.” He questioned whether the suicide attempts by farmers in front of the ruling party’s MLA camp offices, tahsildar offices, and collectorates were ‘invisible’ to the chief minister. He said the Congress had criticised ‘Dharani’ that was introduced by the BRS govt, but had now brought Bhu Bharati ‘recklessly’. “Why has it failed to solve land-related issues? The state govt promised to correct land records and protect farmers’ rights. But for the past two years, it has been making excuses and refusing to register lands, playing with the lives of farmers,” he alleged.
