20 essential checks I do before starting a long driving journey

20 essential checks I do before starting a long driving journey BHPian d2krish recently shared this with other enthusiasts: For long drives, before I start, I generally do these things:For humans:1. Have enough rest and sleep 2. Pack my medicine kit 3. Fill up water bottles for all passengers 4. Load my music 5. Keep car documents handy 6. Keep road side assistance and emergency numbers (for my brand of car, insurance as well as NHAI) 7. Clean my specs, take spare ones 8. Take my neck pillow – helps me to drive for long 9. Take a in-car trash for the trip 10. Take some dry foodFor the car:1. Check tyre pressure (all 5 tyres) 2. Pop the hood, check overall fluid levels (coolant, brake, washer, engine oil) 3. Check battery voltages – rest voltage > 12V, crank voltage > 10V, after crank voltage 13-14V 4. Inspect the floor in case anything drips 5. As mine is diesel BS6, check DEF. If it is a week-long trip, especially in the mountains, take a bottle of DEF spare 6. Clean all the glasses with glass cleaner 7. Check all my cleaning towels – make sure they are clean, otherwise wash and dry them 8. Check my toolkit – inflator, pressure gauge, puncture kit, a knife, plyer, screwdriver etc. 9. Take a bottle of glass cleaner and old newspapers (for cleaning bugs) 10. In general, I prefer cleaning the car thoroughly. I know it is going to get dirty on road, but so do we get dirty as well, so why not clean the car, as we human do…huh….And I apply some after-wash wax so that road-grims stick less.Just before starting:I take a deep breath, crank, say hello to my car, and let it go… Regards, Debanjan Check out BHPian comments for more insights and information
