Akhanda 2: A huge target at the box office

The trailer of “Akhanda 2” was launched recentlysetting off strong buzz in trade circles. This is the fourth collaboration between Nandamuri Balakrishna and director Boyapati Srinu. Their previous three films were blockbusters, which has pushed expectations for this sequel to an all-time high. As a result, the team has closed massive theatrical business deals.

The film’s non-theatrical rights have also fetched impressive numbers, with Netflix acquiring the post-theatrical streaming rights. But it is the theatrical market that presents the real challenge.

According to trade reports, the film has closed worldwide theatrical business worth more than Rs 120 crore. This means “Akhanda 2” must gross over Rs 225 crore to break even and emerge as a box office success. Traditionally, Balakrishna’s films gross in the range of Rs 100 crore to Rs 150 crore. Crossing the Rs 200 crore mark will therefore be a steep challenge.

“Akhanda 2” is slated for release on December 5, 2025. The film is produced by Gopi Achanta and Ram Achanta in association with Tejaswini M, Balakrishna’s daughter. The team is banking heavily on the Hindi version, expecting it to contribute nearly Rs 100 crore to the global gross. Their confidence reflects the scale of investment.

Adding to the budget is Balakrishna’s remuneration, which is pegged at Rs 45 crore, the highest of his career. With such big numbers involved, “Akhanda 2” carries a massive box office responsibility.
