The Founding Day celebrations of the Telangana Residential School, Sarvail were marked by the unveiling of bronze statues of the institution’s visionary founding fathers, late Prime Minister P.V. Narasimha Rao, who conceptualised the school, and Maddi Narayana Reddy, who donated the land on which the school stands.

P.V. Narasimha Rao as the Chief Minister laid the foundation for the school on November 23, 1971 and it was open to meritorious rural students of Telangana districts. It was the first residential school started by P.V. and later two more schools for Andhra region and Rayalaseema region were started at Tadikonda in Guntur and Kodigena Halli in Ananthapur respectively for students of those regions.

Chief Secretary A. Ramakrishna Rao unveiled the statue of P.V. Narasimha Rao, while Munugodu MLA Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy unveiled the bronze statue of Maddi Narayana Reddy. The event was organised by the Alumni Association, which sponsored the statues.

P.V. Narasimha Rao’s daughter and MLC Vani Devi, P.V.’s son Prabhakar Rao; former DGP Mahender Reddy, Chief Minister’s CPRO Gurram Malsoor, both alumni of the school; Yadadri Collector Hanmanth Rao and District Education Officer K. Satyanarayana were among present.

The guests recalled the legacy of the founders and P.V. Narasimha Rao, who was instrumental in starting Navodaya schools across the country, based on the Sarvail school success.
