Tata Sierra Platform
The new Tata Sierra is based on the company’s ARGOS architecture. The company says that this is a new multi-energy SUV platform designed for true capacity, strong safety and efficient space utilization. The platform supports multiple body styles, wheelbases and petrol, diesel, CNG and hybrid powertrains as well as FWD and AWD setups. This architecture is designed for modern chassis technology and improved vehicle dynamics and utilizes a digital-first backbone with updated electronics and high-speed data systems.

Tata Sierra Design and Styling
Now, the name Tata Sierra holds a huge emotional weight for all those who grew up with cars in the 90s, and the carmaker has tried to balance that nostalgia with a thoroughly modern SUV package. Instead of ladder-on-frame construction, you get a monocoque architecture, and where the old Sierra came as either a rear-wheel drive (RWD) SUV or an all-wheel drive (AWD) model, the new generation Sierra will get a front-wheel drive (FWD) option.

The Sierra gets large 19-inch alloy wheels and flush-fit door handles, while at the rear, it gets a neat flat tailgate.
Also, while the old Sierra was a 3-door SUV with large rear glass panels on either side, the new Sierra is a true 5-door SUV. However, Tata has managed to recreate that look with some smart design tricks. Tata has used large windows with flush glazing and glossy black treatment on the sills and C-pillar to give the impression of a large rear glass.

The SUV gets a wide grille and heavy cladding along with faux skid plate for the bumper and all-LED lighting
The new Sierra remains faithful to the upright stance and boxy design of its parent model, but everything else is modern. You get Tata’s new Light Saber connected DRLs and LED taillights, and the company’s Night Saber bi-LED booster headlamps. The SUV features a wide grille and heavy cladding with faux skid plates for the bumpers, large 19-inch alloy wheels and flush-fit door handles, while at the rear, there is a neat flat tailgate.

Lightly themed 5-seater layout, gets leatherette + fabric combination upholstery with dual-tone treatment
Tata Sierra Cabin Technology and Features
Inside, there has been complete attention to comfort and premiumness, and cabin space is a big part of this package. You get a 5-seater layout with light-theme, leatherette + fabric combination upholstery, dual-tone treatment and thigh extenders on the front seats. At 2730 mm, the wheelbase of the Sierra is the best in the segment, and Tata has ensured that passengers feel spacious. The cabin uses simple, soft-touch materials and a straightforward layout, and you get 622-litres of boot space that can be expanded to 1257-litres by folding the second row seats.

A lot of attention has also been paid to the technology on offer – notably Tata’s triple-screen TheatrePro setup, which includes a digital cluster (10.25-inch), a large central touchscreen (12.3-inch), and a separate passenger display (12.3-inch). Tata is also offering iRA connected car technology with 5G connectivity, AR head-up display with multicolored guide and in-built navigation as well as wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Sierra also has the option of Level 2 ADAS with 22 functions, as well as an HD 360-degree camera system and blind spot monitor.

Sierra has the largest panoramic sunroof in the segment (1525 mm X 925 mm)
Of course, you get comfort features like ventilated front seats, the segment’s largest panoramic sunroof (1525 mm x 925 mm), dual-zone climate control, JBL audio system with Dolby Atmos, 360-degree camera, connected car function and Level 2 ADAS on top trims. And yes, Tata is also introducing its Arcade Suite – 30+ curated apps from the passenger infotainment and central infotainment screens for entertainment, gaming, streaming and browsing, which till now we were only able to see in Tata’s electric vehicle models.

Tata Sierra comes with 1.5-litre NA petrol, 1.5-litre diesel and 1.5-litre turbo petrol
Tata Sierra Powertrain and Transmission
There is also a lot of discussion on powertrain options. Like its rivals, Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos, the new Sierra is also available in three engine options – 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, 1.5-litre turbo petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engine. The NA petrol is a new engine in the Revotron range that produces 105 bhp and 145 Nm of peak torque, and is mated to a 6-speed manual or 7-speed dual-clutch automatic (DCA) transmission. It will be available with all variants of the Sierra except the most expensive Accomplished+ trim.
The turbo petrol variant is powered by the all-new, much-awaited 1.5-litre TGDi engine, which is tuned to produce 158 bhp and 255 Nm of peak torque. It is available only with an automatic torque converter unit and will be available only with the most expensive Adventure+, Accomplished and Accomplished+ variants. Finally, we have the 1.5-litre Cryojet diesel engine that produces 116 bhp and 280 Nm of peak torque. You have the option of both 6-speed manual transmission and automatic transmission, and you can opt for this diesel engine with every variant of the Sierra.

Three engines available in 7 variants in both manual and automatic options
Depending on the variant, Tata is also offering drive modes and three terrain modes – Normal, Wet and Rough. It also features a new suspension system with Frequency Dependent Damping (FDD) that adapts to road conditions to improve ride and handling.
