The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has alleged that the sand mafia backed by the ruling Congress party has blasted the check dam near Tanugula village in Jammikunta mandal of Karimnagar district with gelatine sticks so that they could extract the sand from the water storage area, which was not possible with the water stored in the checkdam.
The blasted checkdam across Manair rivulet was examined by a team of BRS leaders led by former ministers T. Harish Rao and Gangula Kamalakar, MLAs Padi Kaushik Reddy and Dr. K. Sanjay, former MLAs D. Manohar Reddy, R. Balakishen, and S. Ravi Shankar.
They alleged that by looking at the Tanugula checkdam blast, they suspect damage to the Medigadda Barrage of the Kaleshwaram project due to a blast by using explosives by Congress leaders. The BRS leaders demanded that the government institute an inquiry into the blast and take action against those responsible immediately.
They alleged that the Congress Government has not been taking up repairs to projects (structures) and not taking up distributary canals and field channels, fearing that such works would only get a good name to former Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao and the BRS.
In case the quality of the construction was the villain for the checkdam damage, government must black-list the Raghava Constructions that had built the structure between Jammikunta and Odela mandals at ₹24 crore and also cancel tenders given to the company.
