BHPian SnS_12 recently shared this with other enthusiasts:Nostalgia ride:Just like this thread, my dad’s Bajaj Chetak too hasn’t seen much tarmac time post its restoration a decade ago. My dad uses it very sparingly and only in and around SOBO (South Mumbai), where it is always parked. The last time I tried riding it and sat as a pillion was when we took it back home post its restoration. So, thanks to the mandatory HSRP requirement, I got an opportunity to ride as a pillion once again and a much longer ride as the fitment centre that was allocated was near BKC. Dad was not very comfortable taking the scooter alone all the way, as he would need to rely on the GPS for directions. So, he asked me If I could join him on Saturday morning, and we took a local train journey followed by a small BEST bus ride to reach our location to pick up the scooter. Felt good to travel like the old days instead of taking a fancy, expensive Uber ride for a change. Dad had recently got the scooter serviced my his local trusted mechanic, and so we were spared any unwanted surprises, especially if it refused to start because of non-use. Dusted her off, and it started in the second kick. In my teen days, I used to stand in the front but that quickly was not feasible as I was growing tall very fast, and that still makes it a not-so-comfortable experience to sit at the back as well, especially with long legs. The ride to Bandra was a slow, uneventful ride with everyone either honking at you for moving at a slow pace or staring at the scooter in awe for it being used and maintained to date. Makes you realise that at times you should just take it slow in life and sit back, enjoy, and appreciate the smaller things in life. When we were closer to the location called the number on the receipt to locate the shop, as it had no signage board and the guy had not opened it either. Waited for a while as we were asked to come by 10:30 am when we confirmed the timing the previous day but the man showed up only at 11. Though the guy arrived late, we were glad we didn’t get stood up and would have to make the journey again. After a few back and forths the rear plate was fitted and the front was handed over as the bracket he had meant we would have to open up the front to get it fitted. For the return journey, I rode back with dad to Mahim from where he was familiar with the old route to back to town and I walked it back to Bandra station.. Really did it the whole loop the old way as I don’t know when the one would happen Back in 2021. Had to get the classes cleaned as we had not opened it during the lockdown. Then I took dad on Bluebird (Busa) to town and back. Old carb lying in the washroom How it looks in 2025 Hasn’t seen much action due to limited usage A design quirk hopefully the newer generation would remember in the future as well HSRP goes on on the existing plate Time to head back to her home..
