Maruti Suzuki has officially introduced its first electric car in India, the India-spec E Vitara. After being launched in global markets earlier this year, this is the carmaker’s first electric car. The manufacturing of this SUV started in August 2025 at the company’s Hansalpur plant in Gujarat, after which its export was started. This model has also been safety tested by Bharat NCAP, where it has received a 5-star rating for both adult and child safety.

Maruti E Vitara: Battery Pack and Output
In India, the E Vitara will be available with two battery pack options, just like the international model. It has three variants: Delta, Zeta and Alpha, with 49 kWh and 61 kWh respectively. The larger battery pack is available in the two pricier variants, while the Delta has the smaller pack and a front-mounted motor that produces 142 bhp and 192.5 Nm torque. The expensive model makes 172 bhp power. The large 61 kWh battery is claimed to range up to 543 km (ARAI) on a single charge.
Maruti will also offer a Battery as a Service (BaaS) scheme with the e-Vitara along with a subscription plan.
Maruti E Vitara: Booking and launch
Bookings for the E Vitara are expected to begin soon, while the carmaker is expected to announce prices in the first month of calendar year 2026.

Maruti E Vitara: Exterior Design
Design-wise, the E Vitara is heavily influenced by the EVX concept, which includes sharp headlamps, Y-shaped DRLs and raised cladding on the wheel arches, bumpers and lower doors. At the rear, it gets the same connected tail-lamp setup as the EVX. The length of this SUV is 4,275 mm, width is 1,800 mm and height is 1,640 mm, and its turning radius is 5.2 meters.
Additional design elements include a pronounced bulge at the rear wheel arch and rear door handle located on the C-pillar. The color palette of the E Vitara includes seven monotone color options along with four dual-tone schemes.
Maruti E Vitara: Cabin and features
Talking about the cabin, the layout of the E Vitara is different from other Maruti models available in India. There is a 10.25-inch floating screen and 10.1-inch digital instrument cluster on the dashboard. It has square AC vents, a two-spoke flat-bottom steering wheel and physical buttons for climate control.
Its features include keyless entry and push-button start, four speakers and an auto-dimming interior rear-view mirror. Apart from this, the pricier variant also adds 19-inch alloy wheels, ventilated front seats, a 10-way power-adjustable driver seat, an Infinity audio system, wireless charging and front fog lamps.
Maruti E Vitara: Bharat NCAP results and safety features

In crash tests, the E Vitara scored 31.49 points out of 32 for adult safety and 43 out of 49 points for child safety. Safety features include 7 airbags, 360-degree camera, front and rear parking sensors, tire pressure monitoring system and electronic parking brake with auto-hold. This SUV is also equipped with Level 2 ADAS, making it the second car from Maruti Suzuki after the Victoris to offer this feature.
Maruti E Vitara: Competitors
Once launched, the e Vitara will compete with the Hyundai Creta Electric, Tata Curve EV, MG ZS EV and the Mahindra BE6. It will be sold in India through Maruti Suzuki’s Nexa dealership network.

Maruti Suzuki Charging Network
The carmaker has also added 2,000 charging points to its existing network in over 1,100 cities. Through the ‘e for Me’ app, users will be able to find, book and pay for both domestic and public charging stations. The company aims to install more than 1 lakh public charging stations by 2030.
Is Maruti late to EV competition?
Maruti Suzuki is entering the electric vehicle segment at a time when many rivals have already gained momentum. Tata Motors and Mahindra are at the forefront among Indian brands, while MG and Hyundai have also increased their presence in the Indian market. It is noteworthy that the launch of e-Vitara has been pushed back from its initial schedule. When it was introduced at the Auto Expo 2025, Maruti’s first electric vehicle was expected to arrive by March.
