Maruti Suzuki Plans Multiple New EVs for India

Maruti Suzuki is all set to begin its electric journey in India with the launch of the and Vitara in early 2026. The midsize electric SUV will be followed by multiple EVs as the company aims to secure a leading position in the fast-growing EV segment. Hisashi Takeuchi, Maruti Suzuki India MD and CEO said that the company will introduce several new EV’s ‘across body types and segments in the coming years”. This product strategy aligns with vision of Suzuki Motor Corporation.

Maruti Suzuki EV Plan Explained

Prior to expanding its EV lineup, the Indo-Japanese automaker is developing a complete ecosystem, from setting up charging stations to offering comprehensive customer support. Over 2,000 exclusive charging stations have already been established across over 1,100 cities, including the top 100 EV markets and intercity routes. Aiming to further expand its charging ecosystem, Maruti Suzuki is collaborating with multiple charge point operators and aggregators.

Maruti Suzuki Plans Multiple New EVs for India

With an investment of 250 crore, the carmaker has expanded charging infrastructure across its dealerships and launched its dedicated EV mobile app – ‘e for me’. The app enables users to locate and access Maruti-owned and partner-operated public EV charging stations, control home charging and make payments from a single platform.

Upcoming Maruti Electric Cars

Maruti Suzuki hasn’t yet disclosed the names or details of its upcoming EVs. However, the range is likely to include an entry-level electric hatchback challenging Tata Tiago EV and MG Comet EV and an electric MPV (codenamed YMC), slated to arrive by 2030. The carmaker might also introduce an electric iteration of its popular Fronx compact crossover.

Upcoming Maruti Hybrid Cars

The Indo-Japanese automaker also aims to expand its strong hybrid product portfolio over the coming years. Maruti Suzuki is developing its own strong hybrid powertrain that’s likely to debut on the Fronx facelift in 2026. Codenamed HEV, the series hybrid powertrain is said to be more cost effective and efficient than Toyota’s Atkinson hybrid powertrain. Designed for mass-market offerings, Maruti’s HEV system will also be introduced on the new-gen Baleno hatchback, Brezza and Swift.
