Unidentified hackers targeted the Cyberabad and Rachakonda police websites, redirecting users to a betting portal and forcing authorities to take the sites offline. A Delhi-based cyber security team under NIC is fixing vulnerabilities. The breach follows the recent Telangana High Court website hack.

Hyderabad: After Telangana High Court, the unidentified cyber hackers targeted the Cyberabad and Rachakonda police commissionerate websites a week ago making the sites unaccessible for citizens.
People trying to get information about Cyberabad and Rachakonda police were met with “site can’t be reached/destination not reachable” errors, pointing to a bad gateway issue.
Sources said both the sites were attacked by unidentified offenders. The users were redirected to a betting portal. The sites were taken offline to ensure visitors don’t land on a betting page.
After noticing the issue the IT cells contacted a Delhi-based cyber security firm, working under the supervision of the National Informatics Centre (NIC), is now working to identify and fix vulnerabilities.
The sites will be live in a few days, officials said. The high court website, also maintained by NIC, was hacked on Nov 13. A registrar had made a complaint with Hyderabad cyber crime police in this regard.
A case was registered under relevant sections of the BNS, IT Act and Gaming Act.
