Wrong DEF filled in my Safari, but Tata’s service saved the day

Wrong DEF filled in my Safari, but Tata’s service saved the day BHPian Manjit24x7 recently shared this with other enthusiasts: My Safari is 2 years old, done about 39K. Last week was driving to Hyderabad, I got the low DEF warning. Since SHELL Devanahalli was closed (Surprisingly) I continued, near KIA Motors Factory, I filled up the DEF near a local Pump (Big Mistake) initially I got the “DEF Quality – OK” on the instrument panel, but as i reached Shadnagar, there was a continuous beep that car will stop in 100 kms. I spoke to Classic Motors – Bangalore my regular service team, they asked if I refuelled (DEF) while the Engine was running — Yes. Its supposed to be filled with the Engine – Off, but not to worry, shut the engine for 15/20 mins, the system will “Re-Set”, since it was about 1300 hrs we stopped at a nearby Dhaba for a leisure Lunch. After about 45 mins when we Started — Same Beep Beep and the stop distance had dropped to 80 Kms. I checked that the nearest TATA Dealer was 5 kms away and drive over to them Malik AutoWorld – Shadnagar. The boys were super quick to understand the problem and Jacked up the car, removed the DEF Tank and cleaned up the complete Tank and Lines, it took about an hour. Dang !! same alarm continued. They immediately got in touch with TATA Motors for next stage, and found that the Sensors would have buggered off, and spares have to arrive from Puna. I returned to Bangalore and left the car in their care. I was called by the Service Head of Malik AutoWorld & regional head of TATA Motors assuring me of fixing the car quick. The spares arrived after 5 days and on replacing them, back to normal. TATA Motors took the issue as a warranty replacement and didn’t charge me for the sensors and labour — totally free replacement, also since the 40K service was nearing, I asked the dealer to do the needful – on payable basis. This is my first TATA Car and the overall experience was excellent. I want to give a 5 Star rating to the experience at Malik Autoworld and TATA Motors.
