GHMC denies role in tree felling at New MLA Quarters

A statement from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation denied involvement in the tree felling which occurred at an open space in the New MLA Quarters.

Responding to the news article, ‘Flagrant tree felling in New MLA Quarters goes unpunished’ published on Thursday (December 11), the Urban Biodiversity wing of the Khairatabad Zone informed that the corporation had taken up branch pruning as per the request by former MP Anjan Kumar Yadav, but did not fell any tree.

Referring to the photograph of a tree stump used along with the news article, the statement said it was after the UBD staff left that the personal secretary of Mr. Yadav had engaged machinery to remove the tree.

When the Deputy Director along with the Circle Manager visited the site, the stump had already been removed, the statement said. Information regarding removal of trees is given to the Forest department for further action, it said.

The article reported removal of several trees to facilitate a meeting at the location, as alleged by the local residents who had also shared video clips of the operation. Forest department officials are yet to respond to the allegations.
