“Babies 2” hit theatres across Telangana and Andhra Pradesh with paid premiere shows on the night of December 11. The film also premiered in North America a few hours later. Starring Nandamuri Balakrishna, the film had a wide release on Friday in multiple languages. The first-day collections are impressive, particularly in the domestic market.
The film collected around Rs 30 crore net in India across all languages on day one, including paid premiere shows. Nearly 97 percent of the revenue came from the Telugu version, while the Tamil version managed a decent Rs 43 lakh net on its opening day.
However, the overseas performance fell short of expectations, especially in North America. The underperformance is being attributed to the delayed release. The Hindi version also recorded low numbers domestically. As a result, the worldwide gross for the first day is lower than what the trade initially anticipated.
Strong numbers in Nizam!
On a positive note, the film showed strong performance in the Telangana (Nizam) region, which came as a pleasant surprise. Reports suggest that the film grossed close to Rs 10 crore in Nizam on day one, including premiere shows, a solid figure for a Balakrishna starrer. Overall, “Akhanda 2” has posted respectable opening-day numbers, but it has not created the kind of opening-day impact expected from a sequel to the blockbuster “Akhanda” and the fourth collaboration between Nandamuri Balakrishna and director Boyapati Sreenu.
The film is now banking on growth over Saturday and Sunday, with the weekend expected to push collections higher.
“Akhanda 2” is the final major Telugu release of the year. Produced by 14 Reels Plus, the action drama blended with devotional elements has received mixed reviewsthough its box office performance remains decent so far.
