Bangalore to Coorg: Latest route recommendations & traffic updates BHPian Bumblebee_red recently shared this with other enthusiasts: I have a trip to Coorg coming up this weekend. Resort is in between Virajpet & Madikeri (closer to Virajpet I think). I will be traveling from Whitefield side, so thinking of taking the regular Mysore-Hunsur route. But for return I am contemplating if taking the Hassan/Channarayapatna-Kunigal-Dobbaspet-STRR will be better to avoid Bangalore traffic or considering I will return on Sunday, there shouldn’t be much traffic in Bangalore. Any tips will be useful. Here’s whatBHPian shankar.balanhad to say on the matter:The Mysore-Hunsur-Kushalnagara-Madikeri route is in good shape. I drove that road a month ago. The roads from Madikeri to Virajpet are not in good shape. Internal Coorg roads are not in a good state at all. The Hunsur-Gonikoppal-Virajpet route is also fine (I drove Mysore – Gonikoppal last week Monday) but when you take the left fork from the main Mysore road, you’ll find a bit of road works going on. And there are a few lateral trenches and potholes to contend with. In ref to returning via Arkalgud and Gorur and Hassan and all. That’s generally a very good road. But it is less populous than the normal route. And there are less nice eateries and things on that road. It all depends what time you leave on Sunday. For example if you leave by say 4pm you should be home and dry in Bangalore by 930 or 10pm. Personally, I would always advocate the more populous route especially when travelling with family and for greater availability of washrooms and food places. Here’s whatBHPian subbu567had to say on the matter:Have take several trips to Coorg, specifically, Virajpet over the last three years. After all experimentation settled on MEW, NICE and ORR to home at Hennur, in both directions. I agree, onward, the road from the left fork after Hunsur till Anechowkur check post is not in a great shape. If I may, you can drive to Periyapatna and then take the left towards Gonikoppal / Virajpet- longer by about 7-8 kms but better. But you miss the forest route that’s much greener. The other route – Via Arakulgud/ CR Patna – I found two issues – one, extraordinary number or speed brakers and two, heavy traffic once you hit the Hassan Bangalore highway. Keep your camera handy, just yesterday spotted two elephants by the road-side. Safe drive.Read BHPian comments for more insights and information.
