Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has alleged that Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, who is also holding the portfolio of Education, and his Cabinet is unmoved by the continuous incidents of residential schools’ students taking ill due to food poisoning.
Former minister and MLA T. Harish Rao visited the King Kothi Government Hospital on Saturday to console students of the Bagh Lingampally Minorities Welfare Residential School admitted there following their falling sick due to food poisoning. He enquired with the doctors about the condition of students.
Speaking later, Mr. Harish Rao alleged that the Congress Government had money to improve the conditions in the residential schools, while it was spending ₹70 crore Singareni money to organise the visit of Argentinian football star Lionel Messi and play a friendly match. The Chief Minister had even spent ₹5 crore government’s money for constructing a stadium in MCRHRD Institute for his football practice.
On Friday, 43 students of residential schools at Chandu Naik Thanda in Madhapur had taken ill due to food poisoning after having lunch and on Saturday, 90 students of the Bagh Lingampally residential school had fallen sick with the same reason. He suggested the Chief Minister focus on providing quality food to the residential school students first instead of making tall claims of vision 2047, $3 trillion economy and others. Neglect of the residential schools had already claimed the lives of 116 students since the taking over of the administration by the Congress in December 2023.
Meanwhile, party leader Ravula Sridhar Reddy alleged large-scale irregularities in the purchase of 36,288 bunker beds for Kasturba Gandhi schools causing a huge loss to the government exchequer and demanded an inquiry into it.
