Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president and MLC Mahesh Kumar Goud claimed that Congress backed candidates had won more than 2,600 of the 4,230 panchayats that went to polls in the first phase and said it reflected public endorsement for Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s governance.
“In places where candidates were elected unanimously, nearly 90% were Congress-backed. People have recognised development, welfare and social justice delivered by the government,” he said, urging the electorate to support Congress again in the second and third phases.
Addressing a press conference at Gandhi Bhavan on Friday, he said that while the BRS won close to 1,000 seats, the BJP secured under 200, the CPM won 40, and the CPI 30. “In many locations, BJP and BRS contested jointly, but people rejected them,” he said.
He also praised ministers, MLAs, and MLCs and said that the recent Global Summit attracting investments of over ₹5.75 lakh crore reflected growing investor confidence. “During the 10 years of BRS rule, how much investment did Telangana actually get?” he asked.
Reiterating allegations of large-scale irregularities by the BJP, Mr. Goud claimed nearly 14 lakh votes were stolen in the recent Lok Sabha elections. He said the Telangana BJP’s MPs won “only because of vote theft”, questioning where the votes cast in favour of BJP MLAs and MPs had gone in the Panchayat elections.
Responding to recent political developments involving former BRS leader K. Kavitha, he said there was nothing wrong with her aspiring to become Chief Minister, but she should reveal facts about the BRS rule. “I will bring her allegations to the notice of the Chief Minister and request an inquiry,” he stated.
