Radhika Apte sparks controversy with comments on graphic violence – Telugu Cinema

Radhika Apte has found herself at the centre of a controversy following her recent remarks on the growing trend of violence in Indian cinema. The actress, who has acted in Telugu films such as Ram Gopal Varma’s Rakta Charitra, spoke about her discomfort with films that, according to her, promote excessive and unhealthy violence.

Now a mother to a baby girl and currently based in London with her husband, musician Benedict Taylor, Radhika said she would not want to raise her child in an environment where entertainment thrives on graphic brutality. Her comments quickly triggered strong reactions on social media.

Critics accused her of hypocrisy, pointing out her own filmography, which includes violent projects like Rakta Charitra, Badlapur, and Sacred Games. Supporters, however, defended her remarks, viewing them as a personal and maternal concern rather than a professional contradiction.

The controversy intensified as her comments coincided with the box office success of Dhurandhar, a film widely noted for its graphic violence. Although Radhika did not name the film directly, many interpreted her remarks as a veiled reference, sparking further debate.

Radhika Apte has also appeared in Telugu cinema in films such as Nandamuri Balakrishna’s Legend.
