A man was arrested by the Chandrayangutta police on Tuesday in connection with the murder of a 11-year-old boy.
The accused was identified as Shaik Imran, 31, a painter and resident of GM Colony, Chandrayangutta. Police said he is the stepfather of the deceased child, Mohammed Asghar.
According to the police, the incident was reported on December 7 at around 1 p.m. outside the family’s house in GM Colony. The accused allegedly assaulted the child in a fit of rage after a local boy complained that Asghar had used abusive language. During the assault, Imran assaulted the boy, grabbed him by the collar, lifted him and slammed his head against the cement concrete road, causing severe head injuries. The child suffered bleeding from his ear following the attack.
Police said the accused shifted the injured boy to a nearby hospital, from where he was referred to Gandhi Hospital for advanced treatment. Despite medical care, the boy’s condition deteriorated and he succumbed to his injuries on December 12 at around 8.19 a.m.
Based on a complaint lodged by the child’s mother on December 10, a case was initially registered, which was later altered to Section 103(1) (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita after the death of the victim. During the investigation, police collected CCTV footage from the vicinity of the crime scene, which showed the accused assaulting the child.
Following a tip-off, the police apprehended the accused in Chandrayangutta on December 16 at around 9.30 a.m. and was remanded to judicial custody.
