Maruti Suzuki India Limited celebrates a historic milestone of 35 lakh units of cumulative production, across three generations, of the WagonR hatchback. Launched in December 1999, the Maruti WagonR joins the ranks of Alto and Swift in crossing this significant milestone. It’s currently manufactured at the Company’s facilities in Gurgaon and Manesar, in Haryana.
In Japan, Suzuki WagonR was first introduced in September 1993. Developed as a semi-bonnet style mini wagon, it gained immense popularity as a comfortable and easy-to-use car. It is manufactured across Japan, India, Hungary, and Indonesia. At present, Maruti WagonR is sold in more than 75 countries and regions across the world, including Japan, India and Europe. In August 2025, the Suzuki WagonR crossed the accumulated sales of 1 crore units.
Recently, the carmaker introduced the Maruti WagonR with an option of swivel seat, which is specially designed to offer greater convenience to senior citizens and persons with disabilities. Drawing inspiration from Suzuki Group’s Corporate Slogan ‘By Your Side’, the initiative aligns with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 10, that aims to reduce inequality.

For this initiative, Maruti Suzuki has teamed up with Bangalore-based startup TRUEAssist Technology Private Limited under its startup Incubation Program with NSRCEL-IIM Bangalore.
Customers can order swivel seat as a retro fitment kit at Maruti Suzuki Arena dealerships. The seat can be installed in new WagonR models or retrofitted in existing vehicles*. With this initiative, the Company intends to bring ease of accessibility across a wide customer base.
The Mruti WagonR swivel seat kit has undergone safety tests at Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) and complies with required safety standards. Installation is carried out without modifying the car’s structure or core functioning. The swivel seat come with a 3-year warranty**, ensuring peace of mind for customers.
