A dedicated multi-level parking app would soon be launched to help motorists locate nearby parking spaces to address growing traffic congestion commercial zones across Hyderabad. The development was shared by the GHMC Commissioner R.V. Karnan during a convergence meeting, held at the Telangana Integrated Command and Control Centre in Banjara Hills on Thursday (December 18, 2025).

With parking emerging as a major contributor to congestion, particularly in busy commercial and hospital zones, the meeting decided to expand multi-level parking facilities across the city. “This app will allow vehicle owners to easily locate nearby parking spaces,” the official said.

The meeting was chaired by Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar and attended by top officials from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, the traffic police wings of Hyderabad, Rachakonda and Cyberabad, Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Monitoring and Protection Agency (HYDRAA), the Water Board and the electricity department. The discussions focused on practical, inter-departmental solutions to long-pending urban mobility and infrastructure problems.

Several infrastructure changes were also discussed to improve traffic flow and pedestrian safety. These included relocating bus stops that currently choke narrow roads to stretches with wider carriageways, shifting Sulabh complexes located on road medians or carriageways, and constructing foot overbridges at locations where frequent pedestrian crossings slow down traffic and increase accident risks. The installation of central railings in accident-prone areas such as Puranapul, Bahadurpura, M.J. Market, Masab Tank and Begumpet was proposed to prevent haphazard road crossings.

HYDRAA Commissioner A.V. Ranganath said inspections of waterlogged areas during the rainy season would be intensified to identify permanent solutions, while steps were being taken to remove encroachments on footpaths. Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) D. Joel Davis outlined several on-ground challenges, including poorly placed bus stops, road-blocking public toilets, lack of pedestrian infrastructure and indiscriminate parking of auto-rickshaws, particularly near Osmania Hospital. He called for immediate allocation of designated auto parking spaces to ease congestion.

Cyberabad Joint Commissioner of Police Gajarao Bhupal suggested that to avoid delays after road digging, both excavation and restoration work should be entrusted to the same contractor. Water Works Managing Director Ashok Reddy said efforts were underway to further strengthen the city’s sewerage and drainage systems and stressed that lasting solutions would be possible only through close coordination among all departments.

The meeting was attended by additional and zonal commissioners, traffic deputy commissioners of police and senior officials from HMDA, GHMC, the cantonment board, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board and other departments.
