Peak Coldwave Returns to Telangana, Hyderabad Shivers Below 10°C

In the Hyderabad outskirts, Moinabad recorded a chilling 6.5°C, followed by Ibrahimpatnam at 7.5°C, highlighting the severity of the coldwave. Core areas of the city also experienced unusually cold conditions for mid-December.

Within GHMC limits, minimum temperatures ranged between 8°C and 13°C. HCU–Serlingampally recorded 8.1°C, while Moula Ali saw 9.4°C and Rajendranagar 9.5°C. Key IT and residential hubs such as Gachibowli and West Maredpally recorded 11°C, while Charminar and LB Stadium logged 12.9°C. Malkajgiri remained relatively warmer at 13.1°C.

Across Telangana, KB Asifabad emerged as the coldest location, recording 5.7°C, followed by Sangareddy (6.4°C) and Rangareddy (6.5°C). Other districts reporting low temperatures included Adilabad (7.7°C), Vikarabad and Siddipet (8.1°C each), Medak (8.5°C), Kamareddy (8.6°C), and Nizamabad (9.1°C).

Meteorologists attribute the sharp fall in temperatures to clear skies, dry northerly winds, and strong nocturnal cooling, conditions typical of peak winter coldwaves in the Deccan region.

Forecasts indicate further intensification of the coldwave from tonight, with minimum temperatures likely to fall to 5–7°C across North and West Telangana. Hyderabad is expected to record lows between 7–9°C over the next 24–48 hours.
