As of now, Kantara: Chapter 1, headlined and directed by Rishab Shetty, is the biggest grosser of Indian cinema in 2025. The movie collected over Rs. 800 crores gross in its lifetime, emerging as the second-biggest grosser in Kannada cinema of all time.

Rukmini Vasanth, who played the female lead, shocked everyone by transforming into the antagonist in this prequel. The actress opened up about her role in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter India. She called the act very dangerous in the early stages of her career.

Rukmini Vasanth said, “Playing the antagonist character in Kantara Chapter 1 was a very dangerous experiment in the early days of my career. I wondered if I would be spending the rest of my career playing the bad guy. People are saying that they loved me playing an evil role and that they didn’t hate me. So, I don’t need to be scared anymore thinking about how it will play out. Nobody saw it coming, and that’s the best part.”
