Hyderabad: Twenty-one months after the Hyderabad police registered a case into alleged phone tapping during the BRS tenure, the state govt on Thursday night constituted a nine-member special investigation team (SIT) to probe the matter. The SIT will be led by Hyderabad police commissioner VC Sajjanar.The decision came on the day police custody of the prime accused and former special intelligence team chief Prabhakar Rao ended, ahead of a Supreme Court hearing scheduled for Friday.In an order, DGP Shivadhar Reddy said: “An SIT comprising the following officers has been formed to investigate the case with immediate effect under the overall supervision of VC Sajjanar.”The SIT includes Ramagundam commissioner Ambar Kishore Jha, Siddipet commissioner SM Vijay Kumar, DCPs Ritiraj (Madhapur) and K Narayan Reddy (Maheshwaram), Greyhounds group commander M Ravinder Reddy, additional DCP KS Rao (Rajendranagar), ACP P Venkatagiri (Jubilee Hills), DSP Ch Sridhar (TGANB) and HMRL DSP Nagender Rao. Venkatagiri will continue as the investigation officer.“The SIT shall complete the investigation and file the chargesheet expeditiously, maintaining the highest professional standards,” the DGP said.The Punjagutta police registered an FIR in March 2024. Six persons were named as accused, including Prabhakar Rao. Police had earlier arrested two additional SPs—N Bhujanga Rao and Tirupathanna—former Hyderabad DCP (Task Force) Radhakishan Rao, and DSP D Praneet Rao, and filed a preliminary chargesheet against them.
