Lay down arms as Op Kagar won’t stop, DGP tells Maoists

Hyderabad: Telangana director general of police (DGP) Shivadhar Reddy on Friday said that the top leadership of the outlawed CPI (Maoist) is allegedly directing its cadre to lie low and relocate to unfamiliar places until the March 2026 deadline of Operation Kagar. Stating that the operation in Chhattisgarh is likely to continue, the DGP appealed to Maoists to surrender and not wait until the deadline. He made the statement while announcing the surrender of 41 Maoists in Asifabad, who also handed over 24 firearms, including 3 AK-47s and 5 SLRs. Of those surrendered, two are from Telangana, including Erragolla Ravi, a native of Kamareddy district, who served as a divisional committee member and worked as an underground cadre for 24 years. Apart from appealing to the five central committee members from Telangana to surrender, Shivadhar Reddy said efforts were being made to reach out to Telangana state committee secretary Damodar through his family members.“The Maoist party leadership, by ignoring the views of its cadre, is sending them to unfamiliar places. This is being done by the remaining leadership to protect their resources. The justification given to their cadre was that police operations would slow down after March 31, 2026, following which they could return to the forest. However, this did not go down well, and the 41 cadres decided to surrender,” the DGP said.Police said that 54 persons from Telangana are working as underground cadres for CPI (Maoist), including five central committee members and eight state committee members. The DGP appealed to the Maoists to lay down arms and surrender, assuring them of safe passage.
