A personal security officer attached to the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) Commissioner allegedly attempted to end his life using his service pistol at his residence in Hayathnagar on Sunday morning. Police suspect financial distress linked to losses in online betting and gaming apps as a possible reason.
The victim, identified as Mutyalapayti Krishna Chaitanya, 32, an Armed Reserve Constable of the City Security Wing, belonging to the 2020 batch and working as personal security officer to HYDRAA Commissioner A.V. Ranganath, sustained a gunshot injury to the head at his house in Sai Surya Nagar, Munaganoor, around 6.30 a.m.
He was shifted to Kamineni Hospital in L.B. Nagar. Doctors said he was brought in a “comatose condition”. A CT scan revealed extensive fractures to the skull and brain. Hospital authorities said he underwent emergency surgery and is currently under intensive neurocritical care. His condition remains serious.
Police said preliminary inquiry indicates that Chaitanya was under financial stress due to debts allegedly incurred after suffering losses on betting and gaming applications. A case has been booked by Hayathnagar police and further investigation is under way to establish the exact circumstances leading to the incident.
