What’s New On The Outside?A couple of years ago, when Tata introduced the Safari facelift, they also introduced the #Dark edition. Somehow, they never got around to making a Red Dark edition, which is why they’ve introduced it on the Safari Petrol: You get red accents all around, but there are no design changes: No chrome up front, just red accents on the headlamp clusters: Front camera gets a washer now: E-IRVM has been carried forward from the Harrier EV. It also has a camera behind it, which doubles up as a dashcam. Above the IRVM, you have the front camera for the ADAS functions. The Safari is equipped with Level 2+ ADAS features: Continuing with the theme, you get red calipers. The Safari comes with 19-inch alloy wheels with 245/55 section tyres: The Red Dark badge on the fender: The feed from this camera is displayed on the inside rear-view mirror: Red coloured ‘Safari’ badge on the tailgate:What’s new on the inside?Like the previous Red Dark editions from Tata, you get red accents on the interiors. It gives a sporty feel to the cabin, but doesn’t go with the overall image of the car IMO: You now get the bigger 14.5-inch touchscreen infotainment unit from the Harrier EV. The display unit is a Neo QLED from Samsung. It surely feels high-quality and crisp. There’s no noticeable lag when using the infotainment: The infotainment system is paired with a 10-speaker JBL Black audio system featuring Dolby Atmos 5.1. The sound quality is excellent across all ranges and should satisfy most users: The gear selector looks nice and is very convenient to use. There was some discussion regarding the usability of a monostable gear selector. One advantage here is that you can move directly from R to D and the other way around by holding down the shift release button on top, which is not possible in Mahindra EVs, where you have to go via N every time. The only gripe here is that the selector feels very light and plasticky, not very premium: A look at the passenger side of the dashboard. You get a carbon fiber-like pattern on the dashboard, which looks nice in person: Red leatherette seats have good bolstering and are wide enough for larger users. Like in the Harrier, I had pushed the seat all the way back to drive comfortably (I’m 5’10” tall). If I had to drive with a slightly higher seating position, there would be no room for me to push the seat back. You can always lower the seat, which also pushes the seat behind. Long story short, 6-footers will find the movement of the front seat restricted. Turbanator liked the quality of the leatherette used: The driver’s seat memory function is paired with the ORVMs, which dip when reverse is engaged. You can even save the dip angle as per your preference on your memory settings. What I found a bit odd was that if you set your seat to one of the memory setting and then make some adjustments, you have to save it again to the memory every time. This is essential, or else, when you go from Reverse to Drive, the mirrors will stay in the dipped position and won’t come back up. You have to go back to your original memory setting to bring them back to normal: Another feature that has been carried forward from the Harrier EV is the e-IRVM, which displays the feed from the camera installed in the shark-fin antenna. The camera feed is of good quality, and there’s almost no lag. If you keep the IRVM in the middle, there will be reflections, so you can turn it towards you so that you can directly see the display: A look at the rear seats draped in red leatherette upholstery. It is wide enough to accommodate 3 adults, and you get 3-point seatbelts for the 3 passengers, but only two adjustable headrests: Rear passengers get 2 65W USB Type-C ports: Third-row seats are split in a 50:50 ratio. They are on the thinner side and offer less support than the other seats in the car. That said, cushioning is good by ‘third row standards,’ and they get soft & adjustable headrests too. The seatback angle is comfortable, but it’s not adjustable: Read Team-BHP’s detailedTata Safari 1.5L TGDi Turbo-Petrol ATreview here
