Cyberabad sees marginal drop in overall crime rate after many yrs

Hyderabad: For the first time in several years, there has been a 1% decrease in overall reported crime in Cyberabad.At the annual press conference on Tuesday, the Cyberabad police stated that, of the 37,243 total cases registered in 2025, cybercrime accounted for the largest proportion, at 21%.Cyberabad police commissioner Avinash Mohanty said that, of the 358 serious cases reported, 304 were detected. “Last year, convictions were attained in 5,514 cases, whereas this year, convictions have increased as the police have managed to secure convictions in 6,652 cases,” he said.Meanwhile, regarding road safety, the police reported that the number of road accidents has increased from 3,829 to 4,609 this year. However, the number of fatalities has decreased from 856 to 803. However, the number of non-fatal, injury-free accidents has increased. Following a significant increase in cybercrime cases last year, the total number of cases registered this year has decreased to 7,636, compared to the 11,914 cybercrime cases reported in 2024.“When we analysed the reasons for accidents, we found that 21% of deaths were due to self-collision, whereas accidents involving drunk driving accounted for 2.82%,” said the police, adding that 72 foreigners were deported this year.
