Two years ago, the career trajectories of Telugu director Prasanth Varma and Bollywood star Ranveer Singh were moving in opposite directions. Prasanth Varma was riding high on the blockbuster success of “HanuMan,” while Ranveer Singh was struggling with a series of underperforming films. Impressed by HanuMan’s pan-Indian appeal, Ranveer Singh expressed interest in collaborating with Prasanth Varma, and a mythological project was officially announced.
However, the collaboration soon fell apart due to creative differences. Sources claimed that Ranveer Singh was unhappy with Prasanth Varma’s refusal to accommodate certain script changes.
Following Ranveer’s exit, sections of the media and Prasanth Varma’s supporters projected the narrative that the Bollywood actor would regret walking away and that his chances of achieving a major pan-Indian success were slim.
Fast forward to now, nearly two years after HanuMan released on January 12, 2024, Prasanth Varma is still stuck at the drawing board with its sequel, Jai HanuMan, which is yet to go on floors. Adding to his troubles, the director is also facing a financial dispute with producer Niranjan Reddy, further delaying his momentum.
Fortunes changed after 2 years
In contrast, Ranveer Singh has staged a massive comeback with “Dhurandhar,” a film that is racing toward the Rs 1000 crore gross mark. The blockbuster has elevated his market value to new heights, making him one of the most sought-after super stars in Bollywood. With “Don 3” already in the pipeline, several top producers and directors are now keen to sign him for future projects.
Ultimately, Ranveer Singh seems to have lost nothing by walking away from Prasanth Varma’s project. While the actor moves ahead with bigger and more ambitious ventures, Prasanth Varma now faces the challenge of reclaiming his winning streak with “Jai HanuMan,” starring Rishab Shetty.
