Drove to multiple cities in MH from Pune: Horrible state of roads

Drove to multiple cities in MH from Pune: Horrible state of roads BHPian asit.kulkarni93 recently shared this with other enthusiasts: In the last few months, I had the opportunity of visiting Nagur, A’Nagar, Sambhajinagar, Kolhapur, Satara, Sangli, Nashik, Dhule, Amalner, Shegaon & ofcourse Mumbai. All this obviously from Pune. 1. Cities like Mumbai & Pune have the most horrible city roads. Undulations & random manhole covers either elevated or dipped. Barring some roads around Sobo & Navi Mumbai, Rest of Mumbai roads remain a joke. 2. Pune takes the cake, baker & the bakery. Horrible city roads, Highways pass through the city and extreme lawlessness. Paud road, Karve road, FC road, University road & Nagar Road have random horrendous patch work done. PMC blames metro & Metro blames PMC while both are at blame making a football out of the road users. 3. I have been visiting Ahmednagar/Ahilyanagar since ages and roads have been consistently horrible. Barring that one flyover that city amazes me. It can be a benchmark of how a city should not be. 4. Nashik surprisingly has better infra than most cities of its size but traffic around shalimar, nashik road & dwarka is concerning. With growing population & traffic, Hopefully the ring road comes in action quickly. 5. North Maharashtra majorly has much better state highways than national highways. I took the state highway from Jalgaon to Amalner via dharangaon and honestly it was well laid without any potholes. Till 2017-2019, I have always encountered craters(not potholes) on my from Amalner to my ancestral village which is a few kms away. Since the last 7 years, That road is smooth sailing. Even the road to Dhule from Amalner is in top shape. 6. Roads in and around Vidharbha & Marathwada are honestly a level above rest of Maharashtra. I was amazed at the Akola bypass. Even the 2-lane roads are wide and well marked. 7. Travelling from Pune to Kolhapur is torturous. In the last 15 years, It has just become bad. Starting with Navle bridge, the junction to Sinhagad & other parts of the western ghats where a few hundred years back the Maratha army managed to built forts on inaccessible mountains. Fought & won countless wars and here we cant even get the basic infra right. In addition to blaming the authorities, The road users need to be awarded padma shree for creating multiple lanes leading to bottlenecks. By passing Karad & Kolhapur is another battle which the modern day mavle have to undertake to cross Maharashtra successfully. 8. Accessing Samruddhi from any major city takes hours. The facilities on the expressway need to get better. 9. It is shameful that people in cities have to measure distance in time because people are ridiculously spending hours in traffic and tiring themselves out. Industries leaving the state isnt surprising. High property rates without adequate infra feels like a proper loot. 10. In 2025, Travelling between Mumbai,Pune & Nashik takes an average time of 4-5 hours one way minimum. This is shameful considering the significance of these cities. The way forward is blur. We might just have to live with this and enjoy Live to drive outside Maharashtra. Check out BHPian comments for more insights and information.
