BHPian chiefpk recently shared this with other enthusiasts:Morgan’s Guide to the NHK K5R I have been using the NHK K5R Helmet for the last 4 months now. I bought it before getting Morgan (my ’25 RS457) home and I had a few set of requirements that I wanted to cover with this purchase of my first helmet.Requirements:ECE 22.06 is a must. ISI for legal purposesMust have pinlock (either 30 or 70)Around the 6000 rs. price rangeDouble D-Rings is a mustSun Visor is a good to haveI researched for good helmets with this set of requirements and these were the following options:NHK K5RMT HummerSMK TyphoonAxor ApexFeatures:Ticks all the requirements in the list. Is compatible with spectacles as well. Rest of the helmets are compatible too in the list. The design also goes well with my racing stripes RS457 so that’s something. Comfort:The helmet weighs 1550 +- 50 grams depending on the size of the shell. Mine is a M sized helmet. The weight distribution particularly is better than the SMK and is very uniform. I have never faced any neck pains as such even during my solo Bangalore-Pune ride (deets on this later in a separate post) which I covered in the same day.Quality:I am impressed by the quality it offers at this price point. Padding and general quality is good at this price. My friend’s SMK Typhoon has a bit more of a cheaper feeling pad and the plastics in general but you won’t be able to tell the difference that much. Good quality though, makes a case for itself in the long run, so kudos to that. Overall, I believe this is a good buy for the price. Spares and visors are available online and offline both so that isn’t much of an issue for me. Feel free to ask any more questions you might have. I would love to answer them for you folks. Ride safe and try wearing gear all the time is what Morgan says to me at the start of every ride. Onwards, Forward, Upward I will also create a separate guide and post for all the other riding gears I have bought and have been using since the start of my ownership soon. I hope this is helpful for people making a choice for their riding gears as well. Cheers! Check outBHPian commentsfor more insights and information.
