Mollywood star hero Mohanlal’s latest film Vrusshabha, which was shot in Telugu and Malayalam simultaneously, hit the big screens today amidst very low buzz. Let’s see how the movie is.
Story:
Vijayendra Vrusshabha (Mohanlal), the King of Trilinga, is the protector of Aatma Linga. One day, when enemies attack the kingdom to seize the Aatma Linga, Vrusshbaha King retaliates along with his army. In the process, he unexpectedly kills a kid. The child’s mother curses Vijayendra, and it continues to haunt him even in his next birth.
Plus Points:
Vrusshaba explores a new emotion and dynamic, and this is the only aspect that serves as the film’s takeaway. This could probably be the reason why Mohanlal came on board.
A sword-fight sequence featuring Mohanlal and a crucial character in the second half is decent. This is the only stretch where the film becomes somewhat watchable, though it lasts only for a brief period.
Minus Points:
At the idea level, Vrusshaba is interesting and had the potential to become a compelling reincarnation drama with a fresh emotional core. However, an idea alone cannot guarantee a good film, and Vrusshaba fails on multiple fronts, making it one of the most boring outings in recent times.
It takes a great deal of incompetence to make a legendary actor like Mohanlal feel insignificant. The writing is consistently poor, with a screenplay that lacks structure and a proper flow. The script, screenplay, and direction are outright weak, leaving the actors clueless and lost in this forgettable mess.
Despite a runtime of just around 127 minutes, Vrusshaba bores the audience to death with its complete lack of conviction in storytelling. Below-par production values, poorly designed AI visuals, terrible dialogues, and a pointless love track turn the film into a tiresome watch. The cameo of Jeetendra doesn’t have any significance.
Samarjit and Nayan Sarika are completely wasted in badly written roles, and the blame entirely lies with the writing. Other actors don’t even get notable scenes. While attempting an ambitious film is not wrong, blindly relying on AI-driven visuals, taking the audience for granted, is something the filmmakers need to seriously rethink.
Technical Aspects:
Technically, Vrusshabha leaves a lot to be desired. The visuals in Mohanlal’s introductory episode, featuring a horse-chase sequence, give an early indication of what’s to come, and things only worsen as the film progresses. While the music and cinematography work in a couple of scenes, the other technical aspects are highly disappointing.
Unlike many bilingual films that merely claim to be shot in Telugu, Vrusshabha is genuinely filmed in Telugu, and this is one aspect that deserves appreciation despite the film’s overall quality. Naandda Kishore is the writer and director for Vrusshabha, and his work is a major letdown. He fails to do justice to “The Complete Actor,” resulting in a thoroughly lacklustre product.
Verdict:
On the whole, Vrusshabha is a forgettable reincarnation action drama that is tough to sit through. Almost everything about the film, including the story, screenplay, dialogues, and AI-driven visuals, is unimpressive. Except for the film’s core idea and a couple of scenes in the second half, Vrusshabha remains a painful watch. Even a great performer like Mohanlal cannot save this sinking ship, and it is advised to skip this film and opt for other alternatives this holiday season.
