Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy issued directions to organise Kite Festival at popular lakes in Hyderabad for three days from January 11, 2026, as part of the Sankranti festival celebrations. He suggested the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) Commissioner, A.V. Ranganath, invite IT professionals and other employees to the kite festival at Tummidikunta in the Hitech City. Film celebrities have to be invited to Nallacheruvu lake in Kukatpally and sportspersons to a lake in Rajendranagar area.
At a meeting with the Chief Minister in Hyderabad on Thursday (December 25, 2025), the senior official briefed him about the restoration of lakes in Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) limits. The Chief Minister, who is also Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MAUD) Minister, instructed the Commissioner to organise the kite festival in coordination with the Tourism department during the Sankranti festival.

Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao earlier said that Ministers would visit rejuvenated lakes from January first week to take stock of the arrangements.
The Tourism department officials said a few days ago that the International Kite Festival would be held at Parade Grounds in Secunderabad from January 13-15. Hot air balloons and drone festivals would be held in the city periphery.
