Hyderabad: A group of students, on an excursion to a water park in the city, had a narrow escape after their bus met with an accident on the Hyderabad-Bengaluru highway at Balanagar in Shadnagar on Thursday morning. Ten students suffered minor injuries in the accident, which led to a traffic jam extending for more than 5km. The Balanagar police said a group of 60 intermediate students from Marikal, accompanied by their college authorities, were headed to Jalavihar for an excursion when, suddenly, their bus met with an accident and flipped to one side, creating panic and chaos.Locals and other motorists rushed to the rescue of the panic-stricken students, who were screaming for help. While they pulled them out from the windows, the police shifted 10 injured students to hospital. “Ten students suffered minor injuries and were treated as outpatients. The remaining 50 were unhurt,” the Balanagar police said.During investigation, police found that the driver of an SUV, which was in front of the bus, braked suddenly. To avoid hitting the car, the bus driver swerved and hit the median, which caused the bus to flip to one side. The accident disrupted traffic for nearly an hour. “Since the accident occurred near an under-construction flyover, a crane was readily available. Using the crane, both the bus and the car were moved out of the main thoroughfare, paving way for traffic to flow. The accident had caused a 5-km traffic snarl,” the police said. A case was registered against the car driver on charges of negligence.
