Adivasis from remote hamlets to visit Hyderabad first time to witness urban development

ADILABAD

In an attempt to expose indigenous communities to urban life, Minister for Tourism, Culture, and Archaeology Jupally Krishna Rao has announced an “Education and Exposure Tour” for Adivasis of the remote Kummarikunta hamlet.

During a visit to Utnoor mandal in the district on Saturday, the Minister interacted with Gond families and sought to understand the challenges faced by those living deep in the forest, far from the reach of urban areas.

Noting that Adilabad is often referred to as “Mini Kashmir” by tourists, he observed that local residents remain largely unaware of the progress in the outside world.

“To address this, the Tourism and Culture Department will facilitate an all-expenses-paid visit for the residents of Kummarikunta to Hyderabad. The tour is designed to introduce the Adivasis to the city’s historical heritage, modern skyscrapers, and the Metro Rail system,” he said, adding that youngsters from this village would also be shown professional sporting facilities for cricket, volleyball, and badminton.

Reflecting on the 78 years since India’s Independence, Mr. Jupally expressed deep concern over the persistent lack of basic amenities in tribal pockets and directed officials to ensure that living standards in these hamlets are improved through immediate government intervention. He laid special emphasis on education, calling it the most powerful tool for change, and urged adults to at least learn to sign their names to protect themselves against exploitation.

The Minister further assured that the government is committed to providing the four essentials food, shelter, education, and healthcare specifically promising that every eligible family in the gudem (settlement) would be provided with a pucca house. He also distributed blankets to the elderly.
