Bandi questions legal powers of EAGLE in drug cases | Hyderabad News

Hyderabad: Union minister of state for home Bandi Sanjay Kumar on Saturday questioned the Congress govt in Telangana over the legal authority of the ‘EAGLE team’ (Elite Action Group for Drug Law Enforcement), which is tasked with detecting drug trafficking. He said merely registering cases would not curb the drug menace and stressed that those arrested must be effectively prosecuted.Sanjay also questioned why, in recent cases, alleged buyers of drugs were not arrested along with peddlers. He said selective action would not address the problem. The Union ninister demanded that the state govt make public the details of all drug cases registered and investigated when IPS officer Akun Sabharwal was director of enforcement and vigilance in the excise department. He alleged that investigation reports submitted during that period were suppressed by a senior official in the previous govt. Calling for a thorough probe, Sanjay urged the govt to bring back Sabharwal, who is currently on central deputation, to investigate drug cases. He also appealed to chief minister Revanth Reddy to pursue those cases and take them to their logical conclusion in court.
