Senior cardiothoracic surgeon Dr Lokeswara Rao Saja of Star Hospitals, Hyderabad, has been elected Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology, joining a select group of Indian surgeons recognised for excellence in cardiovascular science and surgical research.

Hyderabad: Senior Cardiothoracic Surgeon and Director of Cardiovascular Surgical Research at Star Hospitals, Hyderabad, Dr Lokeswara Rao Saja has been elected as a prestigious Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology (FESC) for his excellence in cardiovascular science.
With this achievement, Dr Saja becomes one of the few cardiothoracic surgeons from India to receive this honour. Established in 1950, the European Society of Cardiology is one of the world’s largest and most influential cardiovascular professional organisations, with over 100,000 experts from 150 countries as members. The organisation plays a key role in drafting international clinical guidelines, promoting research and setting high standards in medical education.
Dr Saja has performed more than 22,500 heart surgeries, including over 17,000 Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG) surgeries. He has gained international recognition for beating heart surgery, multi-arterial grafting and complex valve surgeries. He is also credited with taking up the country’s first Randomized Controlled Trial (RCT) in this field.
