Functionaries of the Telangana Boggu Gani Karmika Sangham (TBGKS) led by its honorary president and former minister Koppula Eshwar and senior leader of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) T. Harish Rao demanded that the State Government and the management of Singareni Collieries Company Ltd (SCCL) set up a medical board immediately and restore dependent jobs.
Speaking after submitting a memorandum on the issue to the Director (Personnel) Gowtham Potru at the SCCL’s corporate office here on Saturday, they requested Deputy Chief Minister M. Bhatti Vikramarka who handles the portfolio of Energy too to appoint a medical board and give jobs to the children of Singareni workers or else they would lead the coal workers to lay siege to Praja Bhavan, the camp office of the Deputy CM.
They reminded that it was the previous K. Chandrasekhar Rao government that had restored the dependent jobs in Singareni cancelled by the N. Chandrababu Naidu government in the past. The BRS government had protected Singareni Collieries by appointing the children of Singareni workers in the dependent category. Of the 40,000 workers now, about 20,000 were appointed as dependent workers.
They alleged that the government was forcing workers who underwent bypass surgery, have sight issues and injured limbs to attend duties. The government was delaying giving dependent jobs as part of its conspiracy to privatise Singareni. The government was not clearing the bills about coal supplies to the State Genco and as a result, salaries were being paid by availing the overdraft facility.
Stating that Singareni was pushed into ₹50,000 crore debts after the Congress took over in December 2023, they sought to know how the government would avail ₹10 crore Singareni money to fulfil Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s football passion and once the BRS returns to power an inquiry would be made into ₹110 crore spent for the football match.
