Food delivery guy injured by Chinese manja in Hyderabad

A food delivery guy sustained a serious injury after he got entangled in a nylon thread, commonly known as the Chinese manja, at Shamsheergunj in Hyderabad’s Old City on Monday.

The injured man, Jameel, a resident of Nawab Sahab Kunta, was riding towards Shahalibanda when the banned abrasive string reportedly fell and wrapped around his neck, causing a deep cut. He was shifted to a private hospital, where he is undergoing treatment. Police said he received 22 sutures for the injury.

Following the incident, Khairatabad MLA Danam Nagender announced a reward of ₹5,000 for information leading to the detection of the sale of banned Chinese manja in the area. City police said enforcement has been intensified and action is being taken against those selling or using the prohibited string.

Meanwhile, the Telangana State Human Rights Commission has registered a human rights violation case based on a complaint filed by city-based human rights lawyer Rama Rao Immaneni. The complaint referred to multiple incidents across the State involving injuries and deaths linked to the use of banned Chinese manja. It cited the case of a minor boy, Jashwanth Reddy, who sustained serious injuries at Keesara. Sources said the matter is likely to be heard on Tuesday (December 30, 2025), by the bench of the commission headed by Justice Dr. Shameem Akhtar.

Police reiterated that the manufacture, sale and use of Chinese manja is illegal and have urged the public to share information to help curb its circulation.
