Many refuse breathalyser test, face action | Hyderabad News


Hyderabad: Police in the state had a difficult time trying to make drunken drivers take a breathalyser test to check their blood alcohol content on New Year’s Eve.In Ramagundam, a 58-year-old man resisted the test when police carried out checks. The incident, which was captured on video, showed the man admitting to having “only half a bottle of beer”. It took several attempts to make him take the test as required.The situation was no different in Hyderabad. A young man who refused to take the test started shouting and crying. He even tried to bang his head against a wall. Meanwhile, a man in Mahbubnagar was sentenced to three days in jail for drink-driving. The court also imposed a fine of 3,000.Furthermore, the police registered drink-driving cases against 281 people in Karimnagar on Dec 31. A total of 224 vehicles were seized because the motorists did not have the correct documentation or because their number plates were not visible.In Jagtial, 138 cases of drink-driving were registered and those caught were sent for counselling. On Dec 30, police in Vikarabad seized 72 vehicles and registered cases against 102 people for drink-driving. On Dec 31, the Suryapet police registered cases against 140 people for drink-driving.
