Five Minors, Including Grandson, Arrested for Jewelry Theft


Hyderabad: Narayanguda police arrested five minors, including the 75-year-old complainant’s grandson, all aged between 11 and 15 years, for the theft of gold and silver jewellery from his house. The police arrested the minors Tuesday and sent them to a state home.

The name of the complainant is being withheld to protect the identity of the minors.

There were minors aged 11 years, one was 14 and another was 15. The complainant said that he had 14 tolas of gold and silver jewelry and Rs 20,000 in an almirah. On December 8, his son found the almirah’s lock open and couldn’t find the jewelry.

The senior citizen suspected his 11-year-old grandson and his friends, recalling that the boy had repeatedly asked for the house keys. The theft allegedly occurred when the complainant was away from his home on December 7.

Following the arrests, police recovered 13 tolas of gold and 2.5 tolas of silver jewellery from the minors.
