Kidnapped 8-year-old boy freed after more than 20 days in Kurnool

An eight-year-old boy, who was kidnapped from his house in Kurnool city more than 20 days back, was released safely by the abductors on Sunday.

According to Kurnool Deputy Superintendent of Police J. Babu Prasad, a couple from Delhi Ajith Rathod and Asha migrated to Kurnool city and was living in a thatched house on the Kurnool – Kodumur road. The family used to eke out their livelihood by selling toys. On the midnight of December 20 last year, when the couple were sleeping in their hut, unidentified miscreants abducted their son Akash Rathod.

The Kurnool IV Town police have registered a case and took up investigation. Special teams were formed on the instructions of Superintendent of Police G. Bindhu Madhav and a search was launched to trace the boy.

“We have verified the CCTV footage at various places and also questioned several persons on suspicion. Searches were conducted on suspicious people and also in Karnataka and Telangana States,” Mr. Babu Prasad said.

Even as the police investigation was on, the boy was found on Saturday at 11 p.m. near the house of the parents. “Initial investigation revealed that the abductors might have feared arrest sooner or later and released the boy,” the police said. The DSP said the investigation in the case will continue till the abductors are nabbed.
