Intermediate second year student ends life allegedly due to academic pressure in Vizag


A 17-year-old Intermediate student ended his life reportedly by jumping off the fifth floor of his hostel building at Paradesipalem under PM Palem in the city, late on Tuesday night, allegedly due to academic pressure.

The student, pursuing second year of Intermediate, hails from Bargarh of Odisha.

As per the reports, the student took the extreme step at around 10.30 p.m. He was immediately rushed to a private hospital nearby, but the doctors declared him dead. Subsequently, the body was shifted to the King George Hospital (KGH) for a post-mortem.

Police said that the student was experiencing severe stress related to studies. Late on Tuesday night, after the study hours, the student was reportedly crying unable to take the pressure. Later, he is suspected to have ended his life.

However, members of the student unions, students along with the parents staged a protest before the college premises on Wednesday, demanding strict action against the management. They alleged that in the name of competition and percentile, the college managements are putting lot of pressure on the youth. PM Palem police reached the spot and assured justice in the case.

Member of A.P. State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, Gondu Sitharam has ordered the police and the Intermediate Education department to submit a report on the death of the student. He has asked for a detailed investigation into the case.
