Coalition To Boost Sports Infrastructure: ACA President


Kurnool: Andhra Cricket Association president and Vijayawada MP Kesineni Sivanath stated that under the leadership of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, efforts are underway to identify and nurture sporting talent across the state. During his visit on Saturday to the cricket ground managed by the Kurnool District Cricket Association in Kurnool town, he reviewed the facilities and gathered details about its current status.

He emphasised that the development of this cricket ground would not only enhance Kurnool’s sporting infrastructure but also give the town a fresh identity. He noted that previous governments failed to prioritise youth sports due to inadequate infrastructure and highlighted that the coalition government is committed to promoting youth engagement in sports. Andhra Cricket Association treasurer Dandamudi Srinivas, Kurnool District Cricket Association president Govinda Reddy, and others participated in the inspection.

Stadiums in all assembly segments: Minister

Kurnool: Industries minister T.G. Bharath stated that the government is committed to establishing a stadium in every Assembly constituency to promote sports infrastructure across the state. As part of this initiative, he said, plans are underway to develop a cricket stadium in Kurnool city.

On Saturday, Vijayawada MP and Andhra Cricket Association president Kesineni Shivanath, along with Kurnool MP Bastipati Nagaraju, inspected the ACA cricket ground located beside Bala Sai Baba School in Munagalapadu village of Kurnool mandal.

During the visit, the minister reviewed the progress of ongoing works and enquired about the extent of the land levelling operations and fencing development. He advised ACA officials to ensure the stadium is developed with proper architectural planning, quality infrastructure, and modern designs.

District collector P. Ranjit Basha, who accompanied the minister, stated that he had directed the Kurnool mandal tahsildar to conduct a survey of the land using rover technology and submit the report by the following day. Later, the minister and the collector inspected the nearby summer storage tank. The minister instructed the municipal commissioner to prevent any encroachment on the land adjacent to the tank.

Kurnool Municipal Commissioner launches ‘Street Yoga’ programme

Kurnool: Municipal commissioner S. Ravindra Babu inaugurated the ‘Street Yoga’ programme at Khana-Khajana on Saturday as part of the ongoing month-long yoga celebrations. Speaking on the occasion, the commissioner said that health is the greatest asset and urged everyone to give priority to their well-being. He noted that the world is increasingly turning to India’s traditional yoga practices, recognising their benefits.

He said regular practice of yoga asanas can keep individuals energetic throughout the day and encourage city populations to incorporate yoga into their daily routine.

The commissioner announced that free yoga training sessions will be held daily at Khana-Khajana from 6 am to 7 am under the supervision of the municipal officials, continuing until the 21st of next month.

256 master trainers being trained: Joint collector

Kurnool: Joint collector Dr B. Navya announced that yoga orientation is being provided to 256 master trainers as part of the preparations to train yoga instructors at the mandal level under the Yoga Andhra-2025 initiative. She participated in the training session held on Saturday at the local indoor stadium, organised in observance of the Yoga Sadhana and Awareness Month.

Speaking on the occasion, the joint collector stated that the state government aims to ensure that two crore people participate in yoga awareness programmes as part of International Yoga Day celebrations in Visakhapatnam. As a preparatory step, 256 master trainers are undergoing a two-day training programme—held at both the indoor and outdoor stadiums in the city—designed to equip them with the skills to further train instructors at the mandal level.

Dr Navya explained that once the master trainers complete their training, they will train certified yoga instructors across the district from May 27 to 31. She also said that the cascading effect of this initiative, noting that if each master trainer can train 10,000 individuals in yoga asanas and pranayama, those individuals, in turn, could help reach and train 10 lakh people. DEO Samuel Paul, SETKUR CEO Dr Venugopal, and other officials also participated in the programme.
