Vijayawada: Three members of a family were electrocuted in an apartment in Nara Chandrababu Naidu Colony, near Benz Circle in Vijayawada on Saturday morning. The deceased have been identified as a couple Saladi Prasad (61) and Venkata Hemavani (54), and Prasad’s sister Taravali Muthyavalli (55).According to Patamata inspector Pawan Kishore, the accident occurred when Hemavani was trying to collect the clothes that were hung on an iron wire to dry. attempting to remove clothes from an iron wire where they were left to dry. She was unaware, that the wire became charged , likely due to a short circuit or a faulty electrical insulation. On coming in contact with the wire, she got electrocuted and collapsed. Prasad, who was present at the spot, rushed to rescue his wife but got electrocuted in the process. Meanwhile, Muthayavalli, who was visiting the family, tried to save the couple.However, she shared their fate.Upon notice the incident, locals quickly shut down the power supply to the building and informed the police. Emergency services arrived shortly after and the bodies were shifted to Vijayawada givt general hospital for post-mortem.A case has been registered, and an investigation is underway to ascertain the exact cause of the electrocution. The cops are also probing potential negligence in electrical maintenance within the apartment building.According to reports, Prasad worked as a lorry driver and his wife was a home maker. Vijayawada East constituency MLA Gadde Rama Mohan visited the site to assess the situation. He spoke with officials and locals to understand the circumstances that led to the incident and assured the families of all necessary support. He also emphasised the importance of regular electrical safety inspections in residential complexes to prevent such avoidable tragedies.Electricity officials are now expected to conduct a thorough inspection of the apartment’s electrical wiring and issue necessary advisories to prevent future accidents.
