Sexual harassment is a serious issue that affects many people, especially women, in various settings, including on flights. The incident that occurred on a Lufthansa Airlines flight from Frankfurt to Bengaluru, where a 52-year-old man was arrested for sexually harassing a woman co-passenger. The culprit was brought to the police station and put into custody when the aircraft touched down at Bengaluru International Airport.
According to a report by the Harvard Chan Sustainability and Health Initiative for Netpositive Enterprise (SHINE) program, sexual harassment is a pervasive problem among flight crews, with 68% of flight attendants reporting that they have experienced in-flight sexual harassment. This highlights the need for airlines to take proactive measures to prevent such incidents from happening. According to an official on Wednesday, the Karnataka police have detained a 52-year-old man on suspicion of pestering a female fellow passenger on a flight in a sexual manner.
Sankaranarayanan Renganathan has been recognised as the person who was arrested. In this regard, the 32-year-old woman had filed a complaint with the Bengaluru International Airport Limited (BIAL) police station. The woman, who is from Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh, stated in her complaint that she was flying with Lufthansa from Frankfurt to Bengaluru on November 6.
The woman was later moved to a new seat in the middle of the trip. Following the aircraft’s arrival at Bengaluru International Airport, the defendant was brought to the police station and placed under custody, when she stated “I passed out midway through the trip. After a while, I discovered that the alleged co-passenger had touched my intimate areas with his hand.
The lawsuit stated, “I had pushed away his hand and went back to sleep.” After around fifteen minutes, I woke up again and saw that the accused had touched my privates between my legs once more. She said in the FIR, “I then dragged his hand off, called the airline staff, and told them about the matter.”
The culprit was brought to the police station once the aeroplane touched down at Bengaluru International Airport, and he was put into custody following the woman’s Tuesday complaint. Under IPC Section 354 A the police have filed a complaint.
