A new year brings a new generation of phones. And while Samsung is readying the Galaxy S24 flagship lineup for an announcement on January 17, the company hasn’t stopped bringing its mid-range and budget phones for 2024 closer to release. Only a few days into the new year, Samsung passed the upcoming Galaxy M55 through the Wi-Fi Alliance.

The Galaxy M55 with dual-SIM capabilities, model number SM-M556B/DS, was certified by the Wi-Fi Alliance on January 4. As usual, the Wi-Fi certificate doesn’t reveal much about the phone but brings the device closer to release.

Samsung’s mid-range Galaxy M55 might still be a few months away from its market debut. Chances are that the Galaxy S24 flagship series will go on sale before the Galaxy M55 makes its official appearance.

For reference, the Galaxy M54 — which the M55 succeeds — was announced in March 2023 and went on sale in April.

First Samsung phone powered by the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1

The Wi-Fi Alliance certificate might be light on details, but this isn’t the first time the Galaxy M55 shows up online. A few months ago, the phone was spotted in an online benchmark sporting a surprising Qualcomm chip.

According to the data so far, the Galaxy M55 is powered by the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 mid-range SoC. Samsung has never used this solution before, which would make the Galaxy M55 the first to employ it.

The Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 is a 4nm chip with eight CPU cores clocked at up to 2.4GHz and an Adreno 644 GPU.

Other specs remain largely unknown, but we’re bound to find out more about the Galaxy M55 in the following weeks and months. We’ll keep you posted.

Thanks for the tip!
