Telangana CM announces caste census

Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy said that caste census will be taken up in the State soon. He said that his government is committed to this decision as per the promise given to the people before the election. He has also directed officials to take necessary steps for caste enumeration. The Chief Minister conducted a review of BC, Minority and Tribal Welfare Departments at the Secretariat here on Saturday.

Addressing the meeting, he asked them to provide complete details regarding Gurukul schools functioning from the rented premises and told them to prepare proposals to construct the buildings on a war footing. He directed that the budget proposals include the estimates of construction of residential schools.

The Chief Minister also directed the officials to ensure that there were no pending bills pertaining to the diet charges, cosmetic charges and cooking bills in government hostels and residential schools. He said that payments should be made through green channel.

Asking the officials to implement the Mahatma Jyothirao Phule Overseas Scholarship Scheme more effectively. He suggested that more deserving students get the benefit. He said that top universities should be identified, and a framework should be prepared in order to find deserving students.

The CM directed that all the SC, ST and BC welfare residential schools be turned into an integrated education hub instead of setting up at different sites and asked them to draw up proposals accordingly. He said that with this, management, supervision and administration of schools can be done better. The CM is of the opinion that by studying more students in the same campus, their talent will increase and their competitive spirit will increase. He also ordered the officials to identify suitable sites for the construction of education hubs in all the constituency centres immediately. If it is not possible in the constituency centre, it is suggested to choose another town or mandal center in the same segment as an alternative. He said that the possibilities of constructing the rest of the buildings on the school premises which are already over 20 acres and making it a hub should be examined.

The CM suggested that corporates be roped in for the construction of education hubs using corporate social responsibility (CSR) funds and donations from philanthropists. He also suggested that funds be collected through CSR for necessary infrastructure, blankets, notebooks, uniforms and books for the students in the government welfare hostels.

The CM ordered the officials to prepare an estimated budget to provide one tola gold along with financial assistance to the beneficiaries of Kalyanamasthu and Shadi Mubarak. The Chief Minister also directed the officials to examine the feasibility to set up BC study circles in each Lok Sabha constituency limits. BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, Tribal Welfare Minister Seethakka, Government Advisor Shabbir Ali, Chief Secretary Santi Kumari and concerned officials attended the review meeting.
